An average college textbook cost between $80-120. A used copy of that book cost about $20 less. When you sell it back to the bookstore at the end of the year you get...$5? Um...excuse me?
The worst part is most of us are just that desperate for the money. Thousands of students use the buyback system every year because well, $5 is better then nothing! But I am pretty sure Most students would rather get at least half price back.
At the University of Marymount and others around the country, student organizations have begun a student run trade system that is equally as easy to access as the bookstore buyback are here, but much more fair in their pricing. That would be nice to start here too would it not?
